Why is My Ford Transit-250 Having Brake Problems?
Whether you're ferrying passengers around Newark or doing deliveries across NYC, your Transit-250 -- it's always gotten the job done. Until recently.
Lately, it's been having brake problems -- not the kind of thing you usually have to deal with, with Ford Transit vans. Here're some things that might be the issues.
Misaligned Brake Pads
If, against what usually happens, when the front brakes go first, the rear brakes are wearing out faster than usual, there's a good chance the brake pads aren't aligned right, and they're wearing down unevenly. This has been a known issue for Transit-250 vans since 2015, apparently -- both the passenger and cargo kind.

Of course, you should run an inspection, too. And if it's been 40,000 or 50,000 miles or so since your last brake pad replacement, it's probably time to change them anyway. That'll run you anywhere from $200 to $600 or so.
Stuck Brake Calipers
This'll definitely wear the pads out, the brake calipers not letting up on the rotors when you let up on the brake. Of course, if the calipers are going bad, you'll know it by:
They might need replacement themselves, then. That can cost anywhere from $750 to $1,000 on average.
